RECORDING 2nd ALBUM IN ENGLAND
We just arrived in England to record our 2nd album and play a number of shows. We are recording at SARM studios where Led fucking Zeppelin recorded, yo!! Our apartment is right across from the studio in a section of London called Notting Hill. Very beautiful here, reminds me of a combination of SOHO NYC and the Mile End in Montreal with an English flare (i.e. lots of pubs serving Fish n Chips).
We are working with producer Stephen Hague who has produced some of my favorite albums and songs including Blur, The Pet Shop Boys and New Order. He is whipping our songs into shape, telling us a certain song needs a stronger chorus or suggesting new chords in the middle 8 (which we call a ‘bridge’ so there’s a bit of language issues to work out).
It’s really good for us to have a producer involved, not just because it has brought us to England for 5 weeks (YAY!!), but because, seeing as we write in a democracy, we sometimes butt heads and disagree. This way, Stephen can just say, “No, CowBella’s idea works better here,” or “Ok CowBella, you’re going to have to let this one go, Sid’s approach is better for the song.” That’s when I go cry and get drunk alone on Guinness.
No really, having a producer like Stephen is a blessing. He is passionate about the songs, full of ideas, and he let budgets fly out the window which makes him a true artist (now he’s poor like us). Also, there will be less arguing about parts between the band because we have a chief now. I feel sorry for Stephen because we are all very opinionated in our sensibilities and tastes, but I’m sure he can handle it. If not , we’ll have to wrestle in Jello or something.
We will try to make you proud by making a great record - and getting fat on beer and fish n chips.
